A l'origine, cette chanson aurait été écrite en 1913 (Mâori Farwell song), par Maew Kaihau.
Reprise en Angleterre par Grace Fields en 1946, signée Clement Scott-Dorothy Stewart.
En 1947, par Kate Smith.
En 1948, Bing Crosby en fait un n°1 au Billboard.
Puis en 1956, reprise par Gale Storm.
Gene l'enregistre le 29 mars 1958, et ce titre sort aux USA en juin 1959 sur l'album "Sounds like Gene Vincent".
Au dos de la pochette, elle est présentée comme "Perfect for the last dance of the evening".
Les Everly Brothers en feront une version en 1961.
